Migration is not a modern phenomenon, but today it is more dynamic than ever - thanks to technological advances in transportation, shifts in international law, and the growing impact of geopolitical events and climate change. Many of the world's metropolises are becoming increasingly international, and in Berlin especially, migrants have long been an integral part of the capital's social fabric.
Like migration itself, living abroad is a journey.
This exhibition is intended to guide viewers through different parts of the world as seen through the eyes of 27 artists from around 20
countries.
Home Away From Home is an elegy to the experience of belonging and not belonging, to moments of connection as well as to conflict or painful memories. New places and unfamiliar faces can evoke something deeply familiar - just as vividly as the memories carried along, including those that cannot be packed into a suitcase.
